Downloads

Deep Dive Bible’s free data to download and reuse: the Bible texts, commentaries, and reference works that are in the public domain or freely licensed, and the cross-references, links, and other data made for the site. Each file is a zip holding the data as JSON and as CSV, with a README giving its license and credit.

The site’s software, Chatiferous, is free software too: its code is on GitLab.

Data that starts here

This is the original source of these data sets, made for Deep Dive Bible by AI agents (Claude, by Anthropic) at Larry Sanger’s direction:

Licenses

Each file’s license is named beside it; where a file holds parts under different licenses, each part’s is named.

Not here: translations still under copyright (the NIV, NASB95, and ESV), and the groups’ own discussions and notes.

The Bible texts

Each verse with its book, chapter, and verse number. Book codes are the three-letter ones of USFM (GEN, EXO, … REV).

Commentaries

Each comment as HTML, with the book, chapter, and verses it is on. The group’s own notes are not here.

Reference works

Each article, with the verses it speaks of. The works marked ZWI come as ZWI files, one per article (the Encyclosphere’s open format for encyclopedia articles), with the verse links beside them. About ZWI files.

The data API

For an app that needs a little at a time, the same data can be read as JSON one passage or verse at a time at /api/data.php. For now it answers only members who are signed in. What it gives:

The rules: add &app= and your app’s name to every request (no email address is needed); credit Deep Dive Bible and each work’s source, as each answer gives them; for more than a little, use the downloads. At most 30 requests a minute, 1,000 a day, and one at a time from an address; past that, the answer is “429 Too Many Requests” with the seconds to wait, and an address that keeps going is blocked for 24 hours. Addresses are kept only scrambled, to count requests, and deleted after two days. The limits may change, and the API may be withdrawn, especially before we make any necessary adjustments to our hosting.

Recordings

The King James Version read aloud by an AI voice (Google’s Gemini), each chapter an MP3 file: the whole Bible in one file (zip, 4.7 GB), or a chapter at a time below. The recordings are dedicated to the public domain (CC0 1.0): use them for anything, no credit needed. The KJV’s text is in the public domain too.
